Insects for identification

Please help me identify the following butterflies, moths and other insects.  I'm mostly a bird-watcher and my knowledge of insects is almost nil.

Here are a few photographs which need identification.  Unless otherwise stated, all of them were taken at a place in central-western France.  The area is near the Loire valley: mostly large fields growing wheat, sunflowers, maize, oil-seed rape, and so on.  However, there is a large deciduous wood nearby, and small copses dotted around the landscape.  There are also a few pasture fields.  The house was once a farm and outbuildings - it has a large garden with tall trees (linden, walnut, yew, oak, gleditia, and various others).  There is also a stone-walled small orchard with about fifteen or twenty assorted fruit trees.  I hope this habitat information helps identification!

If you click on the photographs, you'll get a higher resolution and larger picture.

Almost certainly some kind of fritillary - but which?  My book shows many different species, but none match closely - though it does say that they can vary quite a bit.

Sorry about the errant blade of grass!

I think I have identified this as a Tiger Moth.  I also have a photograph of it on the trunk of a linden tree, with its wings fully closed so that the orangey part is not visible.

Photographed in June 2004.  This moth obligingly flew into the house.  I'm pretty sure it's an ermine moth.
